About del Carmen.

Cristina del Carmen Sandoval is a contemporary artist with modernist and baroque flair. Using mixed media she creates worlds of immersive color and bold texture, drawing together Indigenous textiles with an abstract modernist twist. The purpose of her artwork is to celebrate her Bolivian and Mexican indigenous roots and to portray its people as revered subjects by reinterpreting master paintings. In these recreations, she's exploring different styles and subjects through an Indigenous Latine and queer perspective. Cristina strives to challenge the standards of the traditional art world with these reinterpretations.

She is a recent graduate from Cal State San Bernardino with a BFA in Studio Arts, a minor in Design Arts, and graduated with awards and honors. For the academic year 2021-22, Cristina studied abroad in Florence, Italy. She exhibited her artwork at the Accademia di Belle Arte in a group exhibition between ACA and CSU Florence. In February 2023, Cristina exhibited her first solo show at CSUSB and was recently in the 51st student art show where she won the Artistic Merit Award and the Presidential Purchase Award.

In her free time, Cristina plays TTRPG like Dungeon and Dragons and Good Society, enjoys games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Dead by Daylight, and raises canaries with her mother.
